Saw-wort is a common name for several species of Saussurea. The
species name fastuosa, interestingly, means proud. Proud Saw-wort
has erect stems upto 1.2 meters, branched above. Leaves are many, elliptic,
finely and regularly toothed. Flower heads look like dried remains of a
flower, and are yellow to light brown in color, 1.5-2.5 cm across, on stout
stiff stalks (probably the origin of "proud"), solitary or several in lax
clusters. Dark brown bracts form a covering which gives the impression of a
dried flower.
